California’s governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency to speed efforts to combat the monkeypox outbreak, becoming the second state in three days to take the step.
Earlier, New York and Illinois issued a statewide emergency over the monkeypox outbreak.
In a statement, the California Governor said "California is working urgently across all levels of government to slow the spread of monkeypox, leveraging our robust testing, contact tracing and community partnerships strengthened during the pandemic to ensure that those most at risk are our focus for vaccines, treatment and outreach".
Till Monday, the state of California has so far reported 827 monkeypox cases, second highest in the country after New York.
