Meghalaya, Nagaland state polls: Scrutiny of nominations to be taken up today

Scrutiny of nominations for Meghalaya and Nagaland assembly elections will be taken up today. Filing of nominations ended in the two states yesterday evening. Elections in both the states will be held on 27th of this month.

In Meghalaya, Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor on Tuesday said a total of 334 candidates have filed their nominations for the February 27 election to the 60-member assembly in the state. All 60 sitting MLAs including Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh and Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma submitted their nomination papers seeking re-election.

In Nagaland, 101 candidates filed their nominations on the last day on Tuesday, taking the total of nominations to 225 including four women.  The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 10th of this month.
