Assam Rifles and state police have made one of the largest seizures of contraband Methamphetamine tablets worth 167.86 crore rupees near the India-Myanmar border in Mizoram.

National public broadcaster AIR reported that a consignment of 5,05,000 Methamphetamine tablets, weighing 55.80 kg, were seized from the possession of a woman peddler in the operation.

In a press note, Assam Rifles said the operation was carried out on Friday night by the Serchhip battalion of 23 sector Assam Rifles and the state police at Melbuk village in the Champhai district. Based on a tip-off, the joint patrolling team intercepted a suspected vehicle near Melbuk cemetery in the village and found 50 bundles of Methamphetamine tablets concealed in various compartments of the vehicle.

The statement said both the accused and the seized contraband were handed over to the Zokhawthar police station last night for further investigation and legal proceedings.
