Tripura cabinet gave its approval to the proposal for operationalizing international airway link between Agartala and Chittagong.

Tripura Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, on Tuesday, said “passenger flights would start between Tripura and Bangladesh to further boost trade and economy links between India’s northeast region and the neighboring country”.

Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that the exact date of the start of flights between the Tripura capital and the Bangladesh port city would be decided by the Civil Aviation Ministry in consultation with the External Affairs Ministry and the Bangladesh government.

The minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while inaugurating the new Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in January, had announced that international flights would soon commence from Tripura.

It is reported that an amount of Rs. 4,500 would be charged per passenger and the state government has decided to bear Rs 15 crore expenditure annually as viable gap funding which would aim for subsidising 50 per cent operational cost shortfall in the first three years of operation.
