Deputy CM Y. JOykumar: NPP Doesn’t Count on Letpao; His Joining BJP Doesn’t Make Any Difference on the Party’s Political Strategy and Strength
Imphal, 29th December 2021: Yumnam Joykumar, National President NPP and Deputy CM of Manipur said that Letpao’s joining to BJP doesn’t count and doesn’t make any difference to NPP’s political strategy and Strength during a press conference today.
He continued that NPP doesn’t count on him as he is considered to lose the election this time around. He also heard that Letpao is leaving Chandel and will contest the election from Tengnoupal District. Owing to the situation around in Chandel, the NPP will send a competent candidate to contest the election for Chandel A/C in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha Election in 2022.
The Deputy CM said he hasn’t seen him joining BJP but has been hearing around indirectly for a long time about his intention to join BJP. He also heard that Letpao will Chandel and contest the election from Tengnoupal.
NPP won four seats in the general election of 2017 and it is part of the BJP-led government. All four MLAs were ministers in the present government. However, it was reduced to 2 as the CM removed two of them from the ministership. And Letpao Haokip’s joining to BJP will leave NPP with just 3 MLAs at present.
NPP is planning to send out 40 candidates in 40 constituencies in the Vidhan Sabha Election due to be held in the early part of 2022. And they are hoping for a whooping win in this election in 2022.
Letpao Haokip, a leader of NPP and the Manipur Youth Affairs and Sports Minister joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, the 29th December 2021, Wednesday in the national capital.
