The match between Spain and Germany ended in a 1-1 draw in a Group E match at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. Only a win for Germany in the final group game will give the four-time World Cup champions a chance to avoid a second straight early elimination.

Substitute Niclas Füllkrug scored in the 83rd minute Sunday to give Germany a 1-1 draw against Spain at Al Bayt Stadium in one of the most anticipated matches of this year’s World Cup. A loss would not have eliminated Germany, but it would have left the team in a much more difficult position.

In another match, Croatia knocked out Canada 4-1 at the Khalifa International Stadium at Doha in Qatar last night. With the defeat, Canada crashed out of the Round of 16 race. Croatia sits top of Group F, above Morocco on goal difference, and a draw in their final game against Belgium on Thursday will guarantee they reach the last 16.

Earlier, Costa Rica defeated Japan 1-0 in a Group E match at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium. With this win, Costa Rica climbed to third place in Group E, above Germany while Spain occupied the top spot and Japan are second. In their opening games, Japan stunned Germany 2-1 while Costa Rica received a 7-0 defeat from Spain.
