Anti-Leprosy Day Observed at Sangaiyumpham Primary Health Centre

As part of Sparsh Leprosy Awareness cum Anti Leprosy Fortnight which commenced from 30 January to February 13, District Health Society Thoubal in joint hands with National Leprosy Eradication Program Thoubal organized anti-Leprosy Day at Sangaiyumpham Primary Health Centre for Thoubal District. They also held a discussion on the complete eradication of Leprosy.

The program was graced by CMO Thoubal Dr. Y. Nokul as the Chief Guest, Pradhan of Sangaiyumpham Part-1 GP Md. Jakir as Functionary President, Senior Medical Officer of Sangaiyumpham PHC Dr. Ch. Chandramani, and DLO Thoubal Dr. M. Nomita Devi as Guests of Honor. The program began with a floral tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Gifts were also handed over to Leprosy patients.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Y. Nokul said that the 30th of January is observed as "World Leprosy Day" in honor of the death of Mahatma Gandhi who defied the ball the myth and taboos about Leprosy. He took care of the leprosy patients and worked for their welfare.

He continued that Leprosy in the country is in the elimination stage, yet some districts in the state report few cases of Leprosy at times. Expressing his concern and disappointment on the report of three new infections in Thoubal District, he said that we must put our best effort into the eradication of the disease.
