In a high-level meeting held on Monday evening at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, CM N. Biren Singh directed immediate identification of illegal Burmese immigrants settling in the state's districts adjoining Burma, mainly Chnadel and Churachandpur.
The CM advised the heads of concerned departments to take appropriate security measures to put a check on the flow of illegal Burmese immigrants in the state and illegal settlements in Churachandpur and Chandel districts. The CM also continued that the concerned departments should take up strong measures to identify them.
The Chief Minister chaired the meeting attended by Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, DGP P. Doungel, and other heads of the concerned departments.
The meeting was called upon by the Chief Minister following the recent arrests of illegal Burmese immigrants in the two districts by security personnel.
Meanwhile. a report said that the City Police detained five non-Manipuris with invalid and expired ILP cards from a truck in Nagamapal. They have been taken under police custody for further legal actions.
