A Chinese hand grenade was kept yesterday at the verandah of the house of Puyam Tenden Singh, S/O Late P. Herachandra of Langathel Thingel Leikai under Khongjom Police Station. The daughter-in-law of Puyam Tenden sighted the grenade at around 10:15 am.
A team of Khongjom Police secured the area and blocked the entry, while Manipur Bomb Disposal Squad arrived and retrieved it safely around 2:55 pm. Later the grenade was disposed of at Langathel Lanngam Ching around 3:18 pm.
After Puyam Tenden suffered a stroke and got paralyzed, two of his sons have been the bread earners of the family since. They work in a brick field. But his eldest son left home very young and has been absconding.
They also divulged that the army personnel often enquired about his whereabouts.
According to the family, Tenden's absconding son has been on NIA's Wanted List in connection with an ambush on an army convoy that claimed an army Colonel, his wife, his son, and some riflemen.
