"Democracy in Danger," says Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee

Imphal, March 27- Against the expelling and disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the membership of Parliament without any due process and procedure of law, nationwide protests flare throughout the country. Protests are being intensified by the All India Congress Committee and its corresponding state Congress Committee.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday alleging BJP for the assassination of Democracy and Suppression of voices against their governance protested in front of the Manipur Legislative Assembly led by Ex-CM and CLP leader O. Ibobi.

At the protest, O. Ibobi slams BJP for the assassination of democracy and expressed his apprehension on the fate and future of Indian Democracy. Ibobi asserted that criticism, discussion, and suggestion is very essential for a healthy democracy, but the BJP-led government is putting every intellectual or common people behind bars for criticism even over a trivial criticism, "If voices of the people and opposition are to be suppressed and freedom of speech and press are to be snatch, the government will be called a dictatorial not democratic and the incumbent BJP led government is a clear example of modern-day dictatorial governance" said former CM.

Ibobi questioned why BJP feared criticism of Rahul and Mallikarjun Kharge and can't tolerate criticism.
If the present government feared criticism and set everyone who criticizes them behind bars instead of clarifying and answering allegations and discussing in the parliamentary procedures, it is a clear case of the assassination of democracy. The fate of Indian Democracy is currently very uncertain considering the nature of the current scenario, said Ibobi.

Ibobi continued that opposition must question and enquire about the policies and programs of the government. They must put the suggestions and comment in both the Assembly and Parliament and the ruling bench are accountable for clarification, correction, etc.
He also asks whether Rahul put his comment on the floor of the house or abroad what is the difference, whether is criticism not allowed in a democracy, if not then they will remain muted, and in what part of Rahul's speech and comment, the anti-national sentiment is expressed, asked the former CM?
He said that the Indian Democracy is run through its three organ- Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary, but this very organ is threatened and the fundamental rights of common people and intellectuals are violated by the BJP government alleging critics for anti-national sentiment, where is the democracy he asked?
He furthered that suppression of voices and criticism by a government is not a good indication of accountable and good governance.
"Democracy and its institutions are threatened, and the very idea of democracy to which Independent India was shaped is threatened."
To safeguard the ideal of the Indian Constitution and Democracy, AICC and its corresponding State Congress Committees stand in solidarity and protest against this regime for misuse of power and law and organs and agencies at its disposal against common people and intellectuals who criticize the government, against the assassination of democracy.

He said that Rahul remaining as MP or not is not an issue what matter is the decaying of a healthy democracy and its ideal; even if Rahul is detained he and the congress don't fear it, what they fear is the shedding of a World largest and most successful democracy.
Ibobi said that Indians will not remain silent and will not forgive those who assassinate Democracy. He said that we must not forget the martyrdom of two late Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and their sacrifices and Congress's role in Indian Independence and shaping of a New India.

Protestors hailed Slogan- "Down Down Modi", " Down Down BJP ", " Adani holds the keys of BJP and Modi", " Rahulji Jindabad ", and " We shouldn't accept Opressive Governance ".
The protest was also participated by MPCC President K. Meghachandra, Former Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, MLA K. Ranjit, MLA O. Surjakumar, State office bearers, and Congress Karyakatas.
