The 24 hours bandh called by the National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) on September 21 affects normal life in Manipur. The outfit challenges the Manipur Merger Agreement of September 21, 1949.

A statement issued by the outfit's Information and Publicity Secretary Sanajaoba Meitei questioned if there is any provision/clause in the Manipur Merger Agreement which says that Manipur can never regain its sovereignty.

The normally bustling major markets in the Imphal city and other districts wore a deserted look. However, there were some private vehicles plying on the road.

Most of the markets and business establishments remained closed while government offices registered thin attendance. Schools and educational institutions in the city remained closed. The outfit demanded that the Government of India must admit the political status of Manipur before the Merger Agreement was signed.

Further, the outfit maintained that any party or both the parties to a treaty can annul or withdraw from the treaty if it is no longer favourable to them.
