G20 meeting will be held in Loktak Lake: Kiren Rijiju

Union minister of law and justice Kiren Rijiju on Thursday informed that one of the meetings of the G20 summit to be hosted by India will be held in the middle of the Loktak lake, Bishnupur district in Manipur.

"India is planning very well to make the G20 summit here in Imphal as one of the memorable one,” the Union Minister who was in Imphal on a two-day visit said “ the state government along with the government of India is planning very well to make the G20 summit here in Imphal as one of the memorable one”.

India officially takes over the G20 presidency on Thursday. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a "shift in fundamental mindset to benefit humanity as a whole."India began its G20 presidency with a focus on counter-terrorism and "unity" in tackling global challenges, such as economic slowdown and climate crisis.

Before leaving Imphal on Thursday, the Union Minister paid a visit to the Loktak Lake and inspected progress of the development works of various tourist spots in and around the lake.

The ministerial team also  inspected the work progress of the development of INA (Indian National Army) headquarters during the World War –II at Moirang Konjengbam Leikai before visiting other places like Loktak Lake, INA Memorial Complex, Keibul Lamjao National Park – the only floating national park in the world and home to the Sangai deer, etc. – in Bishnupur district.

The Manipur government has a very good plan to make the lake more beautiful and also to create facilities for the visitors to come and feel the enchanting natural beauty of the lake, he said. Further, he observed that the lake that served as the lifeline of the people living in the periphery has so much natural gifted potential to become a tourist destination.

The Union law and justice minister arrived here in Imphal on November 30 to attend the closing function of the 10-day Manipur Sangai Festival held in Imphal’s Palace Compound in the evening of the same day.
