Governor, Chief Minister to inaugurate 50th All Manipur Shumang Leela Festival today

Manipur Governor La. Ganesan and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, on Saturday, will inaugurate the 50th All Manipur Shumang Leela Festival 2021-22 at Th. Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace compound. The festival is organized by the Manipur State Kala Akademi, Imphal.
As part of the inaugural function, a play “Mareibak Ningba Koirensana” will be staged. Tomba, L. Ibotombi, Chourjit, S. Hemanta, Oken, Tampha, Heramoti, Oinam Arun, and Bishesh are among the renowned actors in the play.
There will be two groups in the festival, namely, Women shumang leela and male shumang leela groups. Altogether fourteen (14) women groups and eleven (11) male groups will participate in the festival.
The competition will begin on 28th August (Sunday), where “Khamba Nongban” by The Imphal Theatre and “Rajarshi Bhagyachandra” by Women Dance and Dramatic Union will be staged on the first day.
The competition of the male group will begin on 4th September (Saturday), where “Nongthangambi” by Nongin Shumang Leela Artists Association will be staged at 2 pm. “Kegegi Yum” by Poklenpokpa and “Mutlaroidaba Machu” by Peace Maker Artists Association will be staged on the second and third day of the festival respectively.
The festival will conclude on September 14 (Tuesday).
