Government Assures Pick and Drop Facilities for Five Minutes at Paona Bazar; Paona Lane To change Its Transit to One Way from Keishampat to Flyover
Imphal, 7th April 2022: Stores Shut Down to Protest Government’s Order to Ban Parking Facilities in Paona and Thangal Market Lanes for two days. The Shopkeepers fear that the non-availability of a parking facility will shrink their business by 60/70 percent. Earlier also the lane at Paona International Market had a one-line parking system. By then everything worked well, the business and the public service. Any service was perfect. But with two lines/three lines the scrupulous parking boys and girls have increased for their benefit, and the entire parking system turns dirty here at Paona Bazar.
"We don’t want any alternative parking space anywhere. If a one-line parking system is allowed here, it would not only help us run our business successfully, but it would also provide free transit to public or private services during emergencies", said Premjit, a shop owner in Paona International Market.
After shutting their stores for two days, the Shopkeepers union has agreed to open the stores again from tomorrow, the 8th of April 2022 after the higher authorities assure “Pick and Drop Facilities” for Five Minutes at Paona Bazar.
The authorities also gave assurance that they would change Paona lane into a One Way from Keishampat to Flyover after they held a meeting with the representatives of the shopkeepers.
The representatives have agreed to suspend their ongoing Store shut-down for a week. And if the authorities fail to fulfill their assurances, they will resort to a strong protest movement, said Shyam, a participant in the meeting with higher authorities.
The agreement came after the representatives of the Shopkeepers held a meeting with the authorities of the transport department, SP Imphal, and other authorities. However, no minister was present during the meeting.
The shopkeepers main apprehension is that the non-availability of a parking facility will shrink their business by 60/70 percent.
