Month campaign for "Know your Basic Rights"- Eta: Northeast Women's Network and MASLSA
The need to know our basic rights is important to live life without fear or favor. The rising problem of women facing issues in daily dealings with institutions, individuals, and officials leads Eta to start the "Know Your Basic Rights" campaign said a statement by Eta: Northeast Women's Network. The campaign is said to continue for the month of April.
It further adds that we live in a society where educated or uneducated, literate or illiterate - many of us fail to understand or exercise our basic rights. Knowing what is the nature of a case filed in the court, getting an acknowledgment of complaints lodged at the police station or other authorities, getting a bill/receipt for what you purchased, etc. - most of us are unaware or unsure of these matters in our daily lives.
Eta's Know Your Basic Rights campaign for the month of April kickstarted on 12th April (Tuesday) at 11:00 am at Phayeng Ching Khunau - Eta's interaction program on the topic, "Know your basic rights' was attended by many locals and members of "Phayeng Khunou Choukhat Thoudang Lup". Eta practiced Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) as a tool for the fruitful interactive session- an exercise for communication and transfer of knowledge. The campaign focus on exploring the basic rights in everyday practices such as understanding the due process to complaints for any injustice rendered. Making women aware of their rights and consent to live with dignity and also exploring other avenues as the participants highlight the non-functionality of the basic institutions of the area and the need to take some collective action. The interaction was carried out through appraisal of community feedback on economic and sector work, learning by doing, and teamwork spirit. Eta team ensures to continue a series of meetings to generally frame the sequence of PRA activities with the communities along with understanding our basic rights together. The campaign took many resolutions toward bringing positive changes in that area.
The second series of Eta " Know your Basic Rights" was conducted at Kangchup Chiru on 14th April 2022 Thursday at 1:30 pm. The session was first interrupted by heavy rainfalls. However, it continues executing toward the understanding of the basic rights for the entrepreneurial avenue, where the villagers feel their certain rights were exploited by some development fallacy. Eta Northeast Women's Network ensures to work closely with the women's group of Kangchup Chiru village.
