Surbala Laishram- India’s First GAMMA World Meet Gold Medalist, Warmly Received In Khangabok

Thoubal, 5th April 2022: A large crowd of people warmly received/hailed Laishram Surbala Devi, the Gold Medalist at the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) world championship 2021, at Khangabok Sorok Wangmataba Part I today with many fans following.

The GAMMA World Championship was held in Amsterdam, Netherland from 23rd March to 27th March 2022. She participated in the 115 LBS Striking MMA Final, where Laishram Subala defeated her opponent Tomiris Zhussupova from Kazakhstan in the final bout and clinched the Championship Title. She became the first-ever female Indian Fighter to win an MMA title.
Khangabok GP part 1 Pradhan N. Mala devi, ward member L. Naba, social worker Kh. Manjor Mangang and other local seniors participated in the reception ceremony organized by the Seven Star Youth Clubangabok Sorok Wangma Community Hall.

Speaking during the reception, Surbala said the GAMMA Championship she took part in was at the amateur level. And she will start training for the professional level like One Championship. She furthered that she had been learning Kick Boxing earlier and began practicing MMA in Bangalore in 2018. However, by misfortune, she had a knee injury during practice in November 2019 and remained on sabbatical till this year when she took part in the Championship in Amsterdam.

Describing the rounds of his final match against Tomiris Zhussupova from Kazakhstan, she said she had a bone fracture on the left cheek in the first round, yet she continued the fight. At some points in between the bout, she felt low and doubted if she wouldn’t be able to fulfill her parents’ expectations. She had many unforgettable moments during the fight, the golden girl said.

Surbala Laishram is the second child of Laishram Chandra @ Birthing and Laishram ongbi Anita. Of the 34 participants representing India in the GAMMA Championship, only Surbala clinched the championship and became a star by becoming the first Indian Gold Medalist in GAMMA.
