Chief Minister Holds Crucial Talks with COCOMI and UNC Over Recent Tragedy

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh convened a pivotal meeting with representatives from the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and the United Naga Council (UNC) at the secretariat on Wednesday.

Taking to micro-blogging site X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister said "Various critical issues, including the recent tragic incident involving the killing of Merangir Mechek from Kangchup village, were discussed."

He further elaborated, "this unfortunate incident has seen resolution with the invaluable support and cooperation of COCOMI and UNC. A suspect linked to the murder has been apprehended, and efforts are underway to ensure all involved are brought to justice."

Merangir Chiru, aged 47, from Kangchup Chiru, tragically succumbed to injuries following an assault by KCP (PWG) cadres at Kangchup Chingkhong on Monday. In response, Manipur Police initiated extensive combing operations to capture the perpetrators.

As of now, Merangir Chiru's body remains at the RIMS mortuary in Imphal. His family and villagers have expressed their intent to claim the body once all responsible parties are brought to justice.
