Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi today to review the security situation in Manipur. The meeting saw the attendance of several high-ranking officials including Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Chief of Army Staff (Designate) Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi, Security Advisor to the Government of Manipur, Director General of Assam Rifles, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, and senior officials of the Army and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
In his address, Home Minister Shah reiterated the Government of India’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stressed that if required, the deployment of Central Forces in Manipur would be increased and that these forces should be strategically positioned to restore peace and tranquility in the region.
A statement by the Ministry of Home Affairs said "Amit Shah emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach to tackle the ongoing ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities". The Minister assured that the Ministry of Home Affairs would engage with both groups to bridge the ethnic divide and foster harmony, the statement said.
The Home Minister also reviewed the conditions in relief camps and directed officials to ensure the proper availability of food, water, medicines, and other basic amenities. He instructed the Chief Secretary of Manipur to ensure that displaced individuals receive adequate health and education services and are rehabilitated effectively.
Furthermore, Amit Shah called for stringent legal action against those involved in violence, underscoring the need for law and order to be upheld firmly.
The Government of India, with active support to the Manipur Government, is committed to strengthening the security situation in the state and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
