Hon’ble Minister of State for Education RK Ranjan Singh Addresses at 5th GEF Summit; Says Globalization of Education has Effectively Changed Society from Industry-based Society to Information-based Society

Hon’ble Minister of State for Education RK Ranjan Singh said that globalization of education has effectively changed society from an industry-based society to an information-based society. 


The minister said the statement while addressing the 5th GEF Summit on the theme “Internationalization of Indian Higher Education, organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in New Delhi on 30th November.

 

The minister also stressed accountability and transparency, educational institutes, and faculty. They should be put to test and asked to perform according to global standards. There is also a need to embrace the ancient Indian ethos of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam for the betterment of the whole world, he added.


Speaking further about NEP-2020 he said that the policy aims to facilitate research & teaching collaborations, mutually beneficial MOUs with foreign countries, etc., and it envisions India taking the role of Viswa Guru and ensuring sustainable growth.


Government is proactive to achieve the objectives contained in the NEP 2020, and several initiatives have already been taken the Ministry of Education has signed MoUs/Education Exchange Programs with counterparts in various countries. 


An MoU in this regard has been recently signed with Norway for cooperation in higher education. Also, an MoU with UAE for educational collaboration will be signed soon. Another MoU with the United Kingdom on Mutual recognition of Qualifications has also been signed to ensure the smooth mobility of students and professionals across countries. A Joint Taskforce for Mutual Recognition of Qualifications with Australia has also been set up to develop a framework for mutual recognition of educational and skills qualifications.


He highlighted that regular engagement is being continued with several multilateral organizations such as BRICS, SCO, G20, Arab League, African Union, IORA, SAARC, BIMSTEC, etc., to strengthen educational collaborations with foreign countries as a group.


He also talked about the Unified curriculum framework that is being developed in line with #NEP2020, UGC Guidelines for Multiple Entry & Exit options in academic programs, the establishment of an Academic Bank of Credits, regulations on Credit Framework, etc.


Dr. Rk. Ranjan Singh said that Indian Institutions of Eminence can now establish offshore campuses. 


 He also stated that world-class foreign universities & institutions have been allowed in Gujarat International Finance and Tech (GIFT) City to offer various courses.
