Attending the B20 conference held at the state banquet hall at Kohima in Nagaland, Minister of State for External Affairs, RK Ranjan Singh said that hosting the B20 event in Nagaland is well-timed and an opportunity. It is a well time because the focus of our leadership is on the development of this region, as the new engine of growth. And an opportunity to establish business linkages in the beautiful part of the country.
Northeast, Mr. Ranjan continued, is India’s gateway to Southeast Asia. We will have seamless land connectivity with the heart of ASEAN, and beyond, once the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway is complete. We are also continuously working for seamless land and rail connectivity with Bangladesh.
The Minister of State for External Affairs and Education continued that Mr. Ranjan furthered that the North East today can be seen as the Center of the Potentially dynamic region of the world, surrounded by ASEAN, Bangladesh, Nepal Bhutan, and of course mainland India.
He also appealed to the business community to consider these factors, while exploring opportunities in the North East Region.
Speaking further about the youths of the North East, he said that youths from the North East serve as the backbone of the initial heydays of the business process outsourcing boom in India. They also play a critical role in the hospitality and caregiving sectors across India.
Nagaland is hosting the fourth and final event of B20 being organized in the north-east region, which is the official G20 dialogue forum for the global business community.
The B20 conference witnessed 60 overseas delegates from 27 countries, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry said.
“Opportunities for multilateral business partnerships in agriculture and food processing, tourism, and information technology were the main theme of the B20 conference, said the ministry.
Addresses and plenary sessions were held at the conference on the theme, along with business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) meetings.
According to the ministry, the state administration brought attention to the major developments and activities in these fields while highlighting investment opportunities at the conference. The conference began on 4th April and it would last on 6th April.
After the delegates arrived on the initial day of the three-day conference, they were welcomed with dinner and a cultural program at the Capital Cultural Hall.
The state government also organized excursions and site visits including a tour of the mini-Hornbill festival, an excursion to a WWII museum, and a visit to a Heritage Village, Kisama Village.
The third day will bring the event to a close with a trip to the Kohima War Cemetery and the departure of the participants from Kohima.
B20 Conferences in the North East Region of India in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of External Affairs, and North Eastern State Governments under India’s G20 Presidency have been organized for exploring partnerships among business communities.
The conferences would aid the development of critical sectors of the economy in the North East and would facilitate economic growth.
