Meira Paibis Demand Severe Punishment of the Accused Human Trafficker
Thoubal, November 10: Langathel Mayai Leikai Meira Paibi organized a sit-in protest movement against human trafficking at Langathel Keithel Macha today. They demanded severe punishment of the accused, Shagolsem Arnold, 27-year-old from Langathel Laikom Leikai Langathel by law.
According to the Meira Paibi, the accused took one, Moirangthem Premdas, 32 years old, S/O Moiranthem Mema Devi of Langathel Mayai Leikai, Thoubal District on 31st October 2021 in the pretext of giving work as a carpenter in Moreh, a border town in Manipur-Myanmar border. But when Premdas’ mother saw Mr. Arnold back at home, she asked where her son was and why he didn’t return home. The latter said that he had stayed behind in Moreh to work.

“On being suspicious at Arnold’s reply, I filed a report of missing at Khongjom Police Station and Arnold was, later on, picked up by the police on 5th of November in this connection,” the mother said.
She further said, “I am doubtful if my son has been sold for money by Arnold in joint hands with some of his gangs. So, I want the Policemen to keep Arnold under their custody till the whereabouts of my missing son is known and brought back to me.”

A woman in the protest movement also said, ‘’There are many youths in our locality and we don’t want people like Arnold to stay among us. Until and unless Premdas is brought back at his mother’s bosom, the accused should not be released, He should be given appropriate punishment by law”.
