Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the oath of office yesterday, along with 71 ministers, to form the new coalition government. The ceremony, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, was administered by President Droupadi Murmu. This marks the beginning of Modi's third term in office, commonly referred to as Modi 3.0.
The new council of ministers includes 30 Cabinet Ministers, five Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State. Key members of the previous administration have retained their portfolios, ensuring continuity in critical areas. Amit Shah continues as the Minister of Home Affairs, Rajnath Singh retains the Defence Ministry, and Nitin Gadkari remains in charge of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Additionally, Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra have been appointed as Ministers of State in the ministry.
The coalition aspect of the new government was highlighted by the swearing-in of HD Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular), who took the oath after Mr. Khattar. Kumaraswamy is the first leader from any of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to take the oath. Following him, Janata Dal (United) leader Lalan Singh, a close aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, also took the oath.
This new government formation underscores the continued dominance of the BJP-led NDA in Indian politics, with a clear emphasis on maintaining key ministerial leadership and fostering coalition partnerships.
