Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Manoj Pandey will visit Manipur on the 18th of August 2022. The two will inaugurate the opening of the Durand Cup Matches scheduled to be played in Manipur.
In this connection, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh held a meeting at the CM Secretariat at 10 am today.
Youth and Affairs Minister Govidas Konthoujam, Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Director General of Police P. Doungel, Major General Navin Sachdeva of the 57th Moutain Division, and other concerned chief officials took part in the meeting.
The 131st Durand Cup will be held in five venues across three states, Manipur, Assam, and West Bengal. ATK Mohun Bagan and East Bengal will compete in the opening match on August 16 at the Salt Lake Stadium and the final will be played on September 18 at the same venue.
For the matches in Manipur, the Defence Minister and the Army Chief will showcase a grand/landmark opening on August 18 at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
A total of 20 popular teams will compete at the 131st edition of the historic Durand Cup. The teams have four groups A, B, C, and D. TRAU, NEROCA FC, Hyderabad FC, Chennai FC, and Army Red FC fall into Group C and all the matches of the group will be played in Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. A total of 10 matches will be kicked off in Imphal. The first match will be played between NEROCA FC and TRAU FC on the 18th of the month at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
