Opposition Party to raise Manipur Issue in Parliament today

Parliament's monsoon session begins today amid outrage over the situation in Manipur. Fifteen opposition MPs have moved an adjournment motion asking the Parliament to suspend all business and discuss the ongoing violence in Manipur.

During pre-session comments at Parliament House, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the Manipur incident put entire nation to shame. Ahead of Parliament monsoon session, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said there will be a discussion on Manipur and government will reply.

The customary all-party meeting, attended by 34 parties and 44 leaders, was conducted on Wednesday that aimed at ensuring a smooth session that will continue until August 11, with 17 sittings. The government has planned heavy legislative business for the monsoon session of Parliament beginning Thursday with Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023, among 31 bills on its agenda.

Taking to Twitter, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said "Monsoon session of Parliament begins today. Leaders and honourable members of all parties in the Lok Sabha are urged that there should be meaningful discussion in the House on subjects of national interest and public interest. Let us move the country on the path of progress by solving the difficulties of the common man through discussion."
