CM Pledges to Implement a 4% Reservation for Meitei Pangals in Higher Studies
Thoubal, 31st December: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh pledged to implement a 4% reservation shortly for Meitei Pangals in Higher Studies during the Hajj House Foundation Stone Laying Program at Lilong Ushoipokpi on Friday. CM in the stone laying event stated that the present BJP-led government is not just for the welfare of a particular group or community but for the equal progress, development, and well-being of all communities in the state. When all the communities progress, peace and prosperity will come into the state automatically, the CM added.
He said that a welfare state requires at first the promotion of the social and economic well-being of every community in the state. That is why the BJP-led government has initiated many new programs including Go to Village, Go to Hills to avail and make up things that people in the Hills and Villages lack.
He ensures to work for upgrading the socio-economic and political status of Meitei Pangals and to never make them feel inferior in any sense during the reign of the BJP-led government.
The CM also said that the Metei Pangals have been settling in Manipur for more than 400 years and it is quite disappointing that no Ema Market (Women’s Market) has been constructed for the community. But today with the coming of the BJP an Ema market is completed for the women vendors of the community. And it will be handed over to the general public soon when the PM visits Manipur on 4th January 2022.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Iningthou Leishemba Sanajaoba expresses his happiness on the construction of a Hajj House for the meitei pangal community by their government. He appeals for a peaceful co-existence and to not believe in the rumors that BJP is anti-Muslim.
MLA Y Sushindro Kurai Kendra, MLA Y Antas Khan Lilong Kendra, Wakf Board Chairman, Alhaj Abdul Nasir, Chairperson Manipur State Minority Commission, and Chairperson Er Anwar Hussain and Donar Hafiz Qari took part in the Hajj House Foundation Stone Laying program held at Lilong Ushoipokpi.

Biren Singh to demands for conducting socio-economic surveys of Meitei Pangals.
The joint organization stated that "after a sub-quota of 4 percent reservation was granted in 2006 in government jobs for Meitei Pangals, there has been no status update on the socio-economy and educational status of the community. As recommended by the Sachar Committee in 2006, the survey should be conducted every 10 years."
The memorandum also mentioned identifying government departments with less than 8 percent representation of Meitei Pangals and filling-up backlog vacancies in five years.
The memorandum also appeals that "the Manipuri women vendors transact most of the business in Khwairamband market and license of vendors in Khwairamband market, and the tribal market should be re-allocated to include Meitei Pangal women proportionally. A new market complex should also be constructed for accommodating vendors of Meitei Pangal".
Jalal the president of AMMOCOC mentioned that there should be a consultative process before any finalization with one of the community stakeholders/representatives of Manipuris.
