Security forces arrested ten militants linked to various proscribed outfits during operations in Imphal East and Imphal West districts, police said Sunday.
Four cadres of the banned United National Liberation Front (Pambei) and one associate were arrested from Wangkhei Thangapat Mapan in Imphal East on Saturday. They were identified as Wangmayum Azizur Rahamna, Sheikh Wasim Raja, Md. Faruk Khan, Phusham Ajmir, and associate Khullakpam Ibosana. The group was involved in extortion and intimidation activities despite UNLF(P) signing a peace pact with the Centre in November 2023.
In a separate operation, Takhellambam Meipaksana Singh (29), an active member of the banned PREPAK (Pro), was arrested from Lamphelpat in Imphal West for extortion activities targeting banks and civilians.
Additionally, five members of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) were apprehended from various locations in Imphal East and West districts. They were identified as Md. Maneruddin (48), Md. Wajbir Ahamed alias Jimi (33), and Thongam Joynanda Singh alias Boicha (51), among others. Officials noted that KCP (PWG), previously dormant, has resurged following the state's unrest in May 2023.
Meanwhile, during search operations in Moltincham village, Kakching District, security forces recovered one SLR, two single-barrel guns, one bolt-action rifle, two HE grenades, magazines, ammunition, and other items.
