Tensions flared yesterday evening at Moirang Tamnapokpi when a team of Bishnupur Police Commandos allegedly manhandled women protesters who had gathered to defend the arrest of village volunteers. Among those affected was 60-year-old Meira Paibi, Moirangthem Sanatombi, who was reportedly brutally beaten by a Police Commando identified as Moirangthem Thoiba alias Murji from Thamnapokpi Mayai Leikai.

The incident sparked immediate outrage, with the Khuman United Clubs & Meira Paibis Association (KUCMA) Mayang Imphal Women's Wing strongly condemning the attack and demanding justice for the elderly protester. Demonstrators in the area also chanted slogans against the arrest of village volunteers.

In a related development, a viral social media video showed a masked individual threatening Manipur State Forces, specifically targeting the Commando personnel involved in the volunteer arrests. On February 22, 2025, police arrested the accused, Moirangthem Thoiba alias Olen Singh (36), from Thamnapokpi under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur District. Authorities revealed that he is an active member of KCP (City Meitei) and a deserter of the PLA.

Subsequently, another suspect, Saikhom Lemburs Singh alias Lemba (31) from Imphal East District, was also arrested for creating the threatening video. Singh, a KCP (City Meitei) cadre with a history of extortion and illegal arms procurement, was found in possession of a mobile phone and an ID card.

Police have warned that any further unfounded threats against lawfully acting security forces will result in strict legal action.
