Tension escalated in Kongba Maru Wakan Range after Kuki militants reportedly opened fire in the area, triggering fear and panic among local residents. The incident occurred this morning at around 9:30 AM.

Following the attack, locals have urged the Governor to take immediate action and dismantle the bunkers of Kuki militants, citing continued threats to their safety. Residents expressed deep frustration over the ongoing violence and demanded stricter measures to restore peace and normalcy in the area.

In a related development, a joint operation by the Kangpokpi Police team and A/155 CRPF, under the direct supervision of SP/KPI, resulted in the arrest of four individuals in Kangpokpi District, Manipur. The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Lungousem Kipgen (29), a resident of Phaijol Village (Kangchup), Kangpokpi District, Manipur
    - Letminlal Kipgen (25), from Ebenezer Village, Kangpokpi District, Manipur
    - Satminlun Tuboi (24), son of Letmang Tuboi, from Chalbung Village, Kangpokpi District, Manipur
    - Thanggoulun Kilong (27), son of Sonkhothang Kilong, from Luwangsanggol Village, Kangpokpi District, Manipur

According to preliminary interrogation, the arrested individuals are allegedly working under Gogou Kipgen, also known as Jamin, of the Kuki National Front (KNF-P).

This firing incident has occurred amid significant developments in Manipur, where mass surrenders of arms have been reported in both valley and hill districts. Notably, Arambai Tenggol handed over 246 arms and assorted ammunition, marking a positive step towards peace and stability in the region.

In response to demands from both valley and hill areas, the Governor has extended the surrender deadline until 4:00 p.m. on March 6, 2025. This extension provides individuals with more time to voluntarily surrender their weapons without facing punitive action. However, those found in possession of illegal or looted arms after the deadline will be subject to legal action.

Police and security forces are set to launch extensive operations once the deadline lapses, ensuring that the rule of law is upheld and public safety is maintained.
