All Congress MLAs from violence-hit Manipur led by former Chief Minister and opposition leader Okram Ibobi Singh reached New Delhi on Thursday and sought an appointment from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu.
Quoting Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Keisham Meghachandra, media reports said, “right now also, cross firing continues in Manipur and mostly in the periphery area and the state. The central government is still not doing anything about it and Prime Minister Modi never made a comment on it. After 26 days, union home minister Amit Shah left Imphal, but violence still continues and today in the 40th day.”
Further, he said “whatever Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge advised us, we followed. We amet the Manipur governor and President Droupadi Murmu. All I can say, we are struggling to restore peace in Manipur. Now we are here in Delhi and have united ten political parties to take up this issue with the PM.”
On Thursday, fresh violence erupted in the state as several houses including Union Minister RK Ranjan’s were set ablaze by miscreants in different parts Imphal. Security forces used tear gas shells to dispersed the miscreants.
The incident comes a day after an attack in the Khamenlok area left nine Meitei were killed and injured twelve others.
