The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and like-minded Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have strongly criticized the Government of India, claiming that the ongoing Manipur crisis is not an ethnic conflict but a proxy war waged against the indigenous Meetei population.
In a Press conference, COCOMI accused the government of protecting Chin-Kuki armed groups, which they allege are responsible for violence, ethnic cleansing, and drug trade in the state. The committee outlined six key demands, including a military crackdown on armed groups, deportation of illegal immigrants, immediate NRC implementation, and the abrogation of the SoO agreement.
They further condemned the government's inaction and alleged double standards, citing the surrender of arms by Meetei volunteers while Kuki militant groups continue to operate freely. COCOMI also rejected any delimitation exercise before the NRC is completed, warning against the inclusion of illegal immigrants in the electoral rolls.
The organization urged the government to take urgent corrective measures, warning that continued appeasement of armed groups would only deepen the crisis.
