In a positive response to the call by the Governor for the surrender of illegal arms and ammunition in Manipur, a substantial cache of items was handed over to Kakching District Police. Among the items surrendered were several firearms including two 7.62 SLR rifles, ten single-barrel and one double-barrel shotguns, three country-made pistols accompanied by magazines, and a 9mm pistol with an empty magazine. Additionally, two magazines for SMG carbines and two for 5.56 INSAS LMGs were submitted.
The surrendered stock also included a variety of live ammunition, with 43 rounds of .303, 26 rounds of AK-47, 12 rounds of 7.62 SLR, seven rounds of 9mm, five rounds of 5.56 INSAS, 20 rounds for Amogh carbines, and four rounds of 12 bore cartridges. Other items were 23 HE grenades, seven signal bombs, nine tear smoke shells, and one charger guide.
Tactical gear was also part of the submission, with sixteen bulletproof helmets, twelve bulletproof plates, and twelve bulletproof vests (covers) being turned in. In addition, ten Baofeng handheld sets along with seven chargers, one binocular marked as Bushnell, and a HE grenade arming ring were surrendered. The cache further included seven pairs of leather boots, two pairs of hunting shoes, one pistol holster, one Para MK-3M1, one stun grenade, one empty 7.62 SLR magazine, two empty LMG magazines, one empty M416 magazine, and sixteen LMG live rounds. Eleven M200 blank cartridges, one tube launcher, and nineteen .303 live blank cartridges were also handed over.
Authorities have welcomed this development, marking it as a significant step toward reducing the circulation of illegal arms and ensuring public safety in the region.
