Covid surge: Manipur reports first case after a gap of 3 months, Delhi Issues Mask Advisory

States issued advisories as India witnessed 3,016 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday, the highest single-day rise in infections in nearly six months. There was also a 40 per cent rise in daily infections.

In Manipur, one new positive case has been reported on Saturday after a gap of almost three months. The latest update by the state Health Services on Saturday showed 17 samples test were conducted and of it, the result of one came COVID-19 positive. The infected case is reported from Imphal East district, a PG student at JNIMS.

The Delhi government assured people there was no reason to panic as the rate of hospitalisation was low. Delhi on Saturday recorded 416 new Covid cases- highest in over seven months with which the positivity rate in the capital stands at 14.37 percent.

Genome sequencing of all samples that test positive for Covid-19 are being carried out to detect any new variants promptly, he informed, adding that the XBB.1.16 variant is currently the most prevalent, accounting for 48 percent of all positive cases.

Although no new guidelines have been put in place by the Delhi government with respect to wearing masks in public places.
