Amid Fresh Eruption of Violence, CM Says Give Peace a Chance in Manipur
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday appealed to the people of the state to maintain peace and restraint from any violent activities.
Addressing a press conference at his Secretariat, the Chief Minister said, amid violence, his cabinet and legislators of the state are working to evacuate all the affected people to safer places. And provide rehabilitation to around 47,000 displaced people.
Terming the visit of Union Home Minister to a violence-hit state for three days as 'historic', he said both the state and centre are monitoring the situation all day and night, under the instruction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The centre approved an Rs. 100 crore package for the relief and rehabilitation of the affected people. Around 4000 pre-fabricated 2 BHK houses will be constructed within one month, he said.
Further, he said the work of issuing essential documents like Aadhar cards, CMHT cards, Bank accounts, Land records, etc will start exercise in the coming two days.
CM concerning the internet banned in Manipur stated that, as people are being carried away by emotions of ethnicity, their government will take more time to lift the baned on the internet.
The Chief Minister also reiterated that the integrity of Manipur will be intact and no force can break the territorial integrity of the state.
CM said the press conference was held to brief the steps his government has taken up since its inception.
CM also retaliated that his government has formed an evacuation team led by MLAs and ministers along with State forces and central forces since the eruption of the ethnic clashes. MLAs are assigned as in charge of relief camps to look into all grievances. Chief Minister urges to have faith in the Commission of Inquiry led by Justice Ajai Lamba, Himanshu Shekhar Das, and Aloka Prabhakar.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh urged the people of the violence-torn state to work towards bringing normalcy to the state and seek cooperation from all sections of the society. This comes amid reports of sporadic incidents taking place in various parts of the hill state.
Meanwhile, Fresh violence erupted at Khamenlok under Kangpokpi District and Nungshum under Imphal East District. As many as Nine civilians were injured at Nungshum, One at Nazarat, and Four at Khamenlok. The incidents of Cross firing were reported since early morning.
A 22-year-old boy got hurt when a bomb planted by armed militants blasted on Monday around 2 pm in the Nazarat area near Sugnu.
The ill-fated incident took place as a large number of people went to the Nazarat area in search of a Ngangom Nevy (From Sugnu Mandop Leikai) who has been missing since 28th May when village Volunteer Forces stormed the Nazarat Camp near Sugnu where the residence of UKLF’s Finance Secretary stands. The planted bomb was blasted when a volunteer touched the bomb.
The injured boy has been identified as Yumnam Vopenjit from Langmeidong Mamang Leikai, Kakching District. A piece of bomb hurt him on the neck. He was given first aid at Kakching PHC and brought to Jeevan Hospital. Later, he was referred to RIMS for further treatment.
