Curtain raiser event for Sangai Festival 2022 was held at the Western Gate of Kangla, Imphal and Moa Gate, Senapati on Tuesday. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, State Ministers Thongam Biswajit, Nemchan Kipgen, Yumnam Khemchand were among the several dignitaries attending the function. This year the festival will return after a pandemic-induced gap of two years under the theme of 'Festival of Oneness'.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said “it gives me immense pleasure to grace the Curtain Raiser of Manipur Sangai Festival 2022 at Kangla, Imphal West today. The biggest tourism festival of Manipur is set in motion with the curtain raiser events which was held at Kangla and Mao gate today. I was joined by Hon’ble Ministers, Hon’ble MLAs, Senior Govt. Officials and various other esteemed dignitaries.
“Come witness the diverse culture, traditions, scenic beauty of Manipur and be a part of this unique festival”, he said.
The Sangai Festival 2022 will now be celebrated across the state in 13 places, bringing together Manipuri culture, art and traditions to strengthen the socio-economic milieu. The primary celebration will occur at Sangai Ethnic Park in Moirang, where multiple huts representing the tribal groups will be set up.
Earlier, the Chief Minister informed that the State government had invited President Droupadi Murmu to attend the Sangai Festival this year.
The ‘Festival’ is named after the State animal, Sangai, the brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur. It started in the year 2010 and has grown over the years into a big platform for Manipur to showcase its rich tradition and culture to the world.
