Disqualification petitions have been filed against the five Janata Dal (United) MLAs of Manipur, who recently joined BJP in presence of BJP National President JP Nadda and Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in Delhi, at Speaker’s Tribunal on 24th October, 2022.
In a post on the official Facebook page of the Indian National Congress, Manipur Unit said “the petitions were filed by the petitioner Hareshwar Goshwami, Vice President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, in all the five disqualification petitions at Manipur Legislative Assembly”.
Further, it said the counsel for the petitioner, Advocate Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, in all the five disqualification petitions against the five MLAs, was present during the filing of the disqualification petitions at Manipur Assembly.
The five JD(U) MLAs who recently joined BJP are Kh. Joykishan, N. Sanate, Md Achab Uddin, L M Khaute, and Thangjam Arunkumar. On September 02, the five MLAs Janata Dal (United) joined the ruling BJP, weeks after the chief of the JD(U) Nitish Kumar broke off an alliance with the party for the second time in nine years.
The JDU had won six of the 38 constituencies it had contested in the assembly elections held in March this year.
