Manipur’s Bir Tikendrajit International Airport will soon have a New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) worth Rs. 500 crores. It will also have Technical Block cum Air Traffic Control Tower, an Apron Linked Taxiway, and Associated City side works, said Sanmukh Jugani - the Regional Executive Director of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Sanmukh Jugani said that the Airport Authority of India would construct a new airport terminal building with all modern facilities at Imphal International airport.
Work order has already been released and is expected to be completed in 24 months, Jugani said in Guwahati on Wednesday. He also said that the project would cost Rs. 500 Cr (approx), and the new terminal building would expand over an area of 22,000 Sqm and have world-class passenger facilities.
The NITB will be able to cater to around 800 passengers during Peak Hour flight operations. And the annual passenger capacity of this NITB will be around 2.5 million passengers, the Executive Director said.
The ATC Control Tower Cum Technical Block will have Ground floor + 6 floors with a height of 40-meters. The Service Building of the airport will cover an area of 2152 sqm, the Director continued.
AAI will also construct new Apron and Taxiways will also be built with a total number of eight Stands for Code –C type aircraft - Airbus A 320 and Boeing 737, it added.
The Cargo complex at the Imphal Airport is under construction with a budget of around Rs. 16 Crores. And over 69 % of the work has been completed and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2023. The complex will have a capacity of 1, 05,120 MT/Annum.
The present Terminal Building at Imphal Airport records around 250 arrivals + 250 Departures during peak hours. However, it is designed for a passenger-handling capacity of 0.6 million annually, added a statement.
