HY News report: The press release undersigned by 14 KSO branches across the country defies Home Minister Shah's appeal to lift the blockade at NH-2.
Earlier, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah took to Twitter about the blockade in Manipur and appealed to lift the blockade on the National Highways in the state.
Shah tweeted, “My sincerest appeal to the people of Manipur is to lift the blockades at the Imphal-Dimapur, NH-2 Highway, so that food, medicines, Petrol/Diesel, and other necessary items can reach the people. I also request that Civil Society Organisations do the needful in bringing consensus. Together only we can restore normalcy in this beautiful state.”
Subsequently, the Committee of Tribals Unity (COTU), has declared to relax the blockade on National Highways, Sadar Hills District on Sunday.
Following the announcement to relax the blockade for a week, unhappy volunteers who were on duty at Gamgiphai Village also stormed the house of the COTU president. As a mark of protest, the volunteers left their duty post from Gamgiphai. An irate mob attacked the residence of two COTU leaders, during which one person was reportedly shot dead.
Meanwhile, the press release by 14 KSO branches condemning COTU's statement stated that they are utterly dismayed by their press release wherein it stated that the blockade would be lifted for a specific window.
They said, While their decision was taken in support of the "peace mission" of the government of India, it is rather insensitive of COTU for its failure to take notice of the arsons and firings taking place at Sugnu even on the day the press release was made.
"While it was a decision taken after wide deliberation and consultation among the public and CSOs, it has rather infuriated the people," said the release.
KSO raised the question to COTU "Wide consultation with whom? If the consultation was indeed made as stated and consensus reached, why would it still infuriate the public asked KSO?
The 14 city branches of the Kuki student organization urge the Committee on Tribals Unity (COTU) to clarify its statement at the earliest.
It further reiterated that any decision taken in this time and hour without the consensus of the public will be deemed null and void, said the released.
