A report by IPS Shrey Vats in connection with the attack on Serou on Saturday stated that at around 10:30 pm, some suspected Kuki militants came out from the vicinity of Serou areas and started firing towards state police and BSF personnel deployed at Serou Practical High School and adjoining areas.
The statement also says that firing came out from the side of Thingganphai and Phailiom on the Churachandpur side. The state police and BSF troops retaliated till 1:30 am this morning by firing the weapons i,e (i) 5.56 INSAS LMG-163 rounds (ii) 5.56 INSAS Rifles -16 rounds (iii) 9 mm SMG -12 rounds and (iv) 51 mm Mortar- 6 Shell, said the report.
No casualty was reported amongst the state police and BSF troops. Simultaneously with the attack, the militants set on fire the houses of Serou village. Further, the arson of 100 houses was reported till date.
It is also reported that after the attack in Serou stopped, firing started from Nazareth village.
According to a close source, the Kuki Militants started burning down again the leftover houses at Serou on the night of 3rd June.
The security forces including police Commandos and BSF were fired upon. The Manipur police commandos and personnel of BSF retaliated however due to heavy volumes of fire from the Kuki militants the same could not be addressed. When the police and BSF asked for help from 37 AR two columns were present there in the station. None of the columns responded either for reinforcement or retaliation. The sad part was that along with the columns, the Commanding Officer and one Officer of 37 AR were also present, said a source.
The source said the action shown by the AR commanding officer is against the ethos of security forces and against the Constitution of India to safeguard the life and property of the general public. It is further requested that direction be issued by the appropriate authority to induct Indian Army immediately to control the tense situation in Serou.
