Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday met the representatives of Nupi Samaj and discussed the draft Manipur Liquor Regulation Policy in Imphal.
Since the announcement of partial lifting of the prohibition on liquor by the state cabinet, several CSOs including Nupi Samaj launches protest and sit-in demonstration in various part of the state.
Regarding the meeting, the Chief Minister said “held a very productive meeting with the representatives of Nupi Samaj regarding the Manipur Liquor Regulation Policy”.
“During the meeting, we exchanged our views on the implementation of the policy and I have also assured that massive drives against unregulated liquor will be conducted throughout the state”, the Chief Minister said.
The crucial meeting was attended by several Ministers and officials including Y Khemchand Singh, Govindas Konthoujam, Nemcha Kipgen and Awangbow Newmai.
Manipur government recently has decided to partially lift the prohibition on the sale, consumption and brewing of alcohol in the state. The state cabinets decision has triggered strong opposition from various groups, including Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) and Nupi Samaj demanding to revoke the decision.
