Six Years Old Yaisana Yumnam Brings Laurel for Manipur; Wins International Olympiad of Mathematics and Smart Kid GK Olympiad-2021-22

Imphal, 4th May 2022: Yaisana Yumnam, a six-year-old class One student from Thoubal has brought laurels for Manipur by bagging the International Olympiad of Mathematics and the Smart Kid GK Olympiad. She is the first Manipuri to ever win the title.

She won the feat in the Silver Zone Olympiad Exams- 2021-22 organized by Silver Zone Foundation based in Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi. The exam was organized nationally, and thousands of students took part in it. The six-year-old scored 100 out of 100 in both the International Olympiad of Mathematics (IOM) and the Smart Kid GK Olympiad (SKGO) and bagged the titles for the state.

She also won prizes in National Level Recitation Competition and Extempore Speech. She has also given the International Maths Creator Championship and the result will come on 31st May 2022. The six-year-old girl is the daughter of Cdr. Amarjit Singh Yumnam - Indian Navy and Sanjita Devi Athokpam from Kiyam Siphai in Thoubal. She is studying at Navy Children’s School (NCS), Cochin.

The Olympiad Examination was held on 27th November 2021 for the Smart Kid GK Award and on 23rd January 2022 for the International Olympiad of Mathematics. And the respective results came out on 10th March 2022 (for GK) and 24th March 2021 (for Maths).

An Exclusive Interview with the Youngest Pride of Manipur

Reporter: Kindly introduce yourself to the people of Manipur. Also, tell us about your Parents, where they are from, where they are at present and what they do.

Yaisana: Good morning, Manipur. My name is Yaisana Yumnam. I am from Kiyam Siphai- Thoubal, Manipur. However, I am staying in Cochin at Present. I am 6 years old and I am just promoted to Class II. I am studying at Navy Children’s School, Cochin but I used to study at NCS Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. My father’s name is Commmander Amarjit Singh Yumnam and my mother’s name is Sanjita Devi Athokpam. My father is a Naval Officer. But my mother doesn’t go to work anymore. But she always takes care of me and guides me.

Reporter: Who was the first person to inform you of the result of the Olympiad Exam and what was your first reaction to it?

Yaisana: Mama told me that the result has come out. The First Result was that of the GK Olympiad and my reaction was, “Oh! Mama. This is really easy. This is just another exam.” And when Maths’ result’ came out, I told Mama that I deserved my favourite KFC 2 buckets.

Reporter: How did you prepare for the exam; how long did you prepare for the exam and when did you start preparing for the Olympiad?

Yaisana: I don’t remember the exact timing. But as I had my school books completed time and again, I did not have much to prepare for.

Reporter: Tell me how difficult was the exam and how many students took part in it.

Yaisana: It was zero percent difficult because I finished my school books long ago and I revised them four to five times before the exam.
I don’t know the exact number of students taking part in the exam but my school Madam says thousands and thousands.

Reporter: Whom do you want to give the credit for your success?

Yaisana: I want to give the credit to my parents and my teachers because whenever or wherever I go or whatever I do, they always support me and cheer me up.

Reporter: When was the last time you visited Manipur? Do you love to visit again in the near future?

Yaisana: I don’t remember the exact date but it was last year only that I visited. Of course, I would love to visit Manipur. Manipur is so good.

Reporter: Tell me something interesting about Manipur. (What do love most about Manipur)

Yaisana: Manipur is really good. Everyone in the state is Kind and not harmful. Cheches (Elder Sisters) and Dadas (Big Brothers) take good care of me when my parents are out of the station.
I just love Manipur, the fresh air, the moutain ranges, and the scenery especially the Loktak Lake.

Reporter: What is your favorite Manipuri dish?

Yaisana: My favorite dishes are Eromba Morok Metpa and Kangsoi.

Reporter: Yaisana you have answered every single question with perfection. You are really very smart.

Yaisana: Laughs joyfully in a childish way.

Reporter: Tell me what is your aim in life.

Yaisana: I am just a small kid to answer but since you ask me, ahh!!!!, time will tell you. But my parents taught me to be a good woman.
