The leadership team of Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), led by its President and General Secretary, held a significant meeting with AK Mishra, Advisor (Northeast) to the Ministry of Home Affairs, at his office in North Block, New Delhi.
During the meeting, TIM underscored the futility of violence and lamented the loss of countless lives and properties—a tragedy affecting not only those directly involved but also innocent communities, especially the Thadou tribe. TIM presented a comprehensive peace roadmap aimed at restoring lasting peace in Manipur while highlighting the deep-seated suffering endured by the Thadou community since the outbreak of violence on May 3, 2023.
The assembly reaffirmed the commitment of the Thadou tribe to peaceful and nonviolent resolutions. Leaders stressed the importance of preserving their distinct identity, clarifying that Thadou is a separate and independent ethnic group—not part of or subordinate to the Kuki community. They detailed decades of persecution and atrocities committed by Kuki supremacist militant groups and their associated organizations.
AK Mishra acknowledged the government's efforts in promoting peace and recognized the unique concerns of the Thadou community. He agreed that widespread misconceptions often mistakenly conflate Thadou with the Kuki community—a confusion stemming from either ignorance or deliberate disinformation. Mishra expressed his deep appreciation for the Thadou community's steadfast commitment to peace and nonviolent conflict resolution.
Emphasizing the crucial role of the Thadou community as peacemakers, TIM leaders and community representatives, including church leaders and village authorities, reiterated their determination to uphold their cultural heritage and work towards a stable and harmonious Manipur.
A statement from the Thadou Convention 2024 further reinforced this message: "Thadou is a distinct ethnic group. Thadou is not Kuki, or underneath Kuki, or part of Kuki, but a separate, independent entity. Any organization that incorporates 'Thadou' but espouses Kuki or misportrays Thadou as part of Kuki is illegitimate and does not represent the interests of the Thadou people."
The meeting marks an important milestone in the ongoing efforts to secure peace and justice for all communities in Manipur.
