CM Extends Warm Wishes For the New Year; Announces More than 1000 Crores Worth Developmental Projects for the State As New Year’s Gift

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on 2nd January conveyed his heartfelt Message for New Year to the people of Manipur. Chief Minister in his message sought the blessings of the Almighty for the people of Manipur to be blessed with abundance, peace, health, progress, peace, and prosperity.

Conveying his Message Chief Minister thanked the people of Manipur for their blessings and support in maintaining peace and bringing good governance. Biren Singh continued that the government will inaugurate more than 1000 crores worth of various developmental projects as a new year’s gift for the people of the state. The developmental projects will be inaugurated by Home Minister Amit Shah on his visit to Manipur on the 6th of January 2023. Another 300 crores will be invested in the construction and finishing works of Kangla Nongpok Thong, Marjing Polo Complex, Olympian Park, Churachandpur Medical College, and several others, added the Chief Minister.

Hailing the support and love of the people of Manipur in bringing communal harmony and oneness among the diverse communities in the state during the Sangai Festival, celebrated with the theme Festival of Oneness, CM said the state got recognition from the Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra.

Speaking further on education, CM N. Biren said that under School Fagathansi Mission, two model schools would be established in each AC to provide quality education and effective teaching and learning method. And, under the Star Education Policy, teachers are being trained by highly qualified professionals from developed nations like Japan, France, the USA, Germany, etc to fulfill the same.

For the health hygiene of girl students especially during puberty, sanitary pad dispensers are being installed at a very fast pace and some already are in operation.

Regarding higher education, DM College is upgraded to DM University by affiliating several colleges including DM Science, DM Arts, DM Commerce, GP College, and Law College. And various infrastructure projects worth around Rs. 50 crores for the University will be inaugurated during Amit Shah’s visit.

Manipur Technical University has also been put to function and many youths are being trained in newly established Hotel Management Institutions and other ITs Institutions to provide create self/ private sector employment instead of waiting years for the so-called government jobs.

And for the Civil Service aspirants, faculties from Delhi are collaborating and have been providing coaching to 200 Civil Service aspirants. Another 300 selected aspirants are given virtual coaching by ALS under state sponsorship.

CM also added that various posts in several departments were recruited based entirely on merit without corruption, favoritism, or nepotism.

Speaking on medical studies in the state, CM said that excluding RIMS, 150 seats have been opened for MBBS in JNIMS and 100 seats in SHIJA Hospital and Research Centre and Churachandpur Medical College. And this in turn will provide adequate doctors in the state.

CM N. Biren continued that Trauma Centres and Oxygen plants have already been set up in every possible area of Hills and Plains and many 50 bedded hospitals have been upgraded to 100 bedded hospitals. For proper accommodation of teachers and doctors at their posting, guest house and transit accommodation in more than 18 places have also been constructed and are presently in use.

CM furthered that under Health for All, doctors, nurses, and other medical staff have successfully conducted household tests for more than 13 diseases to provide medical check-ups and prevent health deterioration due to lack of medical check-ups.

Expressing his belief in War on Drugs which began in 2018, CM Biren said that the combat would keep under control of the drug menace, and end it eventually in Manipur. He said that the poppy plantation figure in the state was around 6700 acres of land in 2019, 2020, and 2021 equally, but it has been greatly reduced to just 1100 acres in 2022. All of this is possible through the joint efforts of the people, state, and law enforcement agencies. He expressed his excitement and extended his gratitude to everyone for their efforts especially those of Village Chiefs, Tribal leaders, and various individuals.

He added that poppy plantations harshly affected our environment as their planters deforested vast areas of land for cultivation. The cultivation at the expense of the forests is the main cause of water scarcity during the lean season, frequent landslides, and mudslides. And these eventually badly affect the climatic pattern in the state.

The CM also asserted that the war on drugs will continue until the state fully mitigates intoxicants and drugs and seek people's unwavering support until final victory.

On women’s economic empowerment, CM said that besides the existing nine Ima Markets in Hill districts, 11 such markets are under construction and will soon be ready for use. He also said that Ima Markets in various plains areas are also under construction in Pallel, Wabagai, Hiyanglam, Moirang, Bishnupur, Nambol, Kanglatongbi, Sekmai, etc.

Besides, more than 400 SHGs are already established in Hill districts where more than 45,000 women are provided an opportunity for self-learning, and in rural areas under RD through SHG 60 thousand - 1Lakh women get benefitted.

Regarding agriculture and production, CM said that minor irrigation such as groundwater extraction is emphasized to enable large-scale double cropping. More than 500 wells have been dug, and drilling is now being done through the installation of more than 260 pumps for groundwater extraction.

CM Biren also said that a Joint Committee is formed by converging Minor Irrigation, Water Resources, CADA, PHED, Agriculture, and Horticulture departments, and willing farmers and cultivators can approach the committee to take a loan through starts-up and grants. CM said that Natural and organic farming is encouraged and emphasized. And with joint efforts, the state is now able to export black rice, pineapple, kiwi, and other edible commodities through proper food processing.

Regarding the importance of various festivals, CM said that the Orange Festival organized at Tamenglong enables deprived orange farmers of Tamenglong to generate income and enhance production. Barak Festival organized at Senapati acknowledges the significance of nature. Shirui Lily Festival organized at Ulhrul showcases the uniqueness and beauty of Shirui Lily.

CM said that organizing such festivals, especially Sangai Festival, can promote tourism effectively in the state and strengthen the bond of communal harmony in the state, showcasing Manipur's oneness in diversity.

CM N. Biren Singh promised that BJP Government 2.0 would live up to people’s expectations and would never let the people’s mandate goes in vain. The CM also appeals to the citizens of Manipur to be responsible and dutiful, He also persuades people to use and treat public assets as their own and also appeals not to be poised and instigate false communal hatred.  He also insists every community to promote and strengthen the communal harmony and integrity of the state and make Manipur, better and brighter.
