PM Modi Chairs Meeting With Senior Ministers; Home Minister Briefs Him On Manipur Crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday chaired a meeting with senior Cabinet colleagues and officials soon after his return from state visits to the U.S. and Egypt.

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah brief him about ongoing crisis prevailing in Manipur.

On Sunday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh briefed Amit Shah and said that the state and central governments have been able to control the violence to a great extent.

Apart from Shah, Union Minister for Petroleum Hardeep Singh Puri, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Labour Minister Bhupendra Yadav, and many other senior officials were also present in the meeting with the Prime Minister.

Manipur CM N Biren Singh arrived in the national capital from Imphal on Sunday morning and went to meet Shah at his residence. "Called on Hon'ble Union Home Minister, Shri @AmitShah Ji in New Delhi today and briefed about the evolving situation on the ground in Manipur. Under Amit Shah Ji's close supervision, the State and Central Govt have been able to control the violence to a great extent in the past week," he tweeted.  

The Manipur Chief Minister said that there has been no report of casualties since June 13 due to the violence, further stating that the home minister assured him that the Union government will take all possible steps to bring back normalcy in Manipur.

“The Union Home Minister advised us to strengthen our work towards achieving everlasting peace and also sought the cooperation of every stakeholder in Manipur to ensure peace prevails”, he mentioned.

The Union Home Minister told the meeting the situation in Manipur was slowly returning to normal while stressing that not a single person has died since June 13 in the violence in the northeastern state.
