Technical Survey Confirms Poppy Plantation at S. Gelbung Village: Village Summoned at the Sangaikot Police Station

Churachandpur, 30th August 2022: Eyeing to contribute to further development of the war on drugs 2.0, the Sangaikot Police of Churachandpur has sent a summon to Ngamthang Haokip, the Chief of S. Gelbung Village in connection to a report of the illegal poppy plantation.

The move is taken up as its first kind by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tangot Kipgen of the Sangaikot Police Station after CM N. Biren Singh resolved to keep extra vigilance in villages where the illegal poppy plantation is being practiced at large. The decision was taken up recently in a meeting with chiefs of police and Narcotics and Affairs of Borders (NAB).

A technical survey of the Manipur State Remote Sensing Applications Centre confirmed rampant plantation of poppies in the village through mapping and drone cameras. Therefore, a summon letter has been sent to the Village Chief under Section 67 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

The letter ordered the Village Chief to present himself before the station and meet the OC at 11:00 am on 1st September. And upon non-compliance, the OC will take legal action against the chief, the summon letter said.
