AMMSO Stage Protest at Waikhom Mani Girls College; Demands Implementation of 4% Reservation Meitei Pangals in Higher Education
Thoubal, 20th September 2022: All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) and AMMSO along with other Muslim students’ organizations, MUMWA, MU, PSU, DMU, MSU DM Arts, PSU DM Science & APSO, on Monday, demanded the implementation of 4% reservation policy of the Meitei Pangals in higher education at WAIKHOM MANI GIRLS COLLEGE, Thoubal. They also held placards and shouted slogans as part of their demand for the same.
As per an agreement of the then government with AMMSO on 27th September 2006, the Meitei Pangal community had a 4% reservation in job and professional courses. However, no such implementation has been made so far since 2006. And this, the AMMSO and other Muslim Students’ organizations condemned, said Kh. Ayub Shah, President, AMMSO(HQ). He said that the government had been slowly poisoning the Muslim community all these years. He also said that the non-implementation of the reservation policy is a means to slow down and hinder the progress of the community.
The President continued that AMMSO and other unions will move to every corner of Manipur, seek help from outside the state and proceed further with stronger movements to achieve equal status with other sections of the society in the state. The organization also seeks the support of the people and other organizations in the conduct of their democratic movements.
