Congress observed August 29 as a "Dark day in the History of the Parliamentary Democracy of India"
Opposition leader and former Chief Minister of Manipur said the conduct of the Assembly session by the BJP-led state government on Tuesday is a mockery of Democracy.
In a press conference at the MPCC office, the former Chief Minister said the one-day assembly session didn't have any agenda to discuss on the ongoing violence prevailing in the state since May 03.
From the Congress side, we want to adopt a resolution to ensure the territorial integrity of Manipur in the house, Ibobi said.
Further, he said the way the house functions today and the government didn't listen to their request is a murder of democracy.
However, on the contrary, the tribal bodies have resolved that no resolution adopted by the assembly will be binding in Kuki areas. The Congress also said that a one-day session is not in the public interest.
Last month, the government recommended a session by August 21, but later revised it to August 28 as it didn’t get a green signal from the Raj Bhavan. Only last week, the Chief Minister's Office announced the assembly will be convened on August 29.
