Manipur Police on Tuesday arrested the administrator of a Facebook page for allegedly disseminating fake news with communal undertones, posing a threat to public peace and stability.

The accused, Seram Suraj Meetei (25) of Wangoo Terakhong Awang Leikai, was taken into custody from Porompat, Imphal East District, under Porompat Police Station. He had been residing at Pong Lambi, Lane No. 3 near JNIMS Hospital, Imphal East at the time of his arrest.

According to authorities, Suraj was responsible for managing a Facebook page that circulated misleading and communally sensitive content. Officials stated that his activities had the potential to incite unrest and disrupt harmony in the region.

The arrest is part of Manipur Police’s intensified efforts to combat misinformation and maintain law and order. Authorities have issued a stern warning against the misuse of social media platforms and urged the public to verify information before sharing online. Strict action will be taken against individuals found guilty of spreading fake news, police said.
