The Manipur Forest Department, in collaboration with local schools and environmental organizations, organized a rally today to mark the International Day of Forests. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of forests and encourage youth to engage in conservation efforts.

Hundreds of students from various schools across Imphal participated, carrying banners with slogans like “Save Forests, Save Future” and “Forests: Our Earth’s Lungs.” The rally began at Kangla Fort, passed through key locations, and concluded at Palace Compound, where a closing ceremony was held.

Speaking at the event, Anurag Bajpai, PCCF & HoFF and Additional Chief Secretary (Textiles, Commerce & Industries, and TA & Hills), underscored the urgent need for forest conservation to combat climate change and protect vital resources. Senior officials, including RK Amarjit Singh (Conservator, Central Circle), Sanajaoba Khuraijam (Conservator, Southern Circle), and Rajkumar Mayanglambam (Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West), highlighted community-driven efforts such as afforestation, sustainable forest management, and wildlife protection.

The Forest Department has been actively restoring the state’s green cover through mass afforestation drives, community-based forest management, and wildlife protection initiatives. Further awareness programs are planned across different districts. The International Day of Forests, observed globally on March 21, emphasizes the critical role forests play in maintaining ecological balance.
