Manipur Police Arrests KCP (PWG) Operatives from Guwahati, Two More Held for Extortion

In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police apprehended two operatives of the proscribed outfit KCP (PWG) from Guwahati, Assam, and formally arrested them in connection with an FIR case in Imphal East.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Meishnam Bungomacha Singh alias Lakpa, from Haotak Tampha Khunou, Wangoo Keirap Moirang, Bishnupur District, and Tekcham Ibomcha Singh (42) of Pukhao Laipham Makha Leikai, Pukhao Ahallup, Imphal East. A team of Manipur Police brought them back from Gorchuk area under Gorchuk Police Station in Kamrup Metropolitan District, Guwahati, on Monday.

According to officials, the accused were actively involved in recruiting youth into the ranks of KCP (PWG). Their arrest follows the earlier apprehension of four extortionists belonging to the same outfit on March 15, 2025, from Andro, Imphal East. Among them, two had reportedly been recruited by the individuals arrested in Assam.

In a separate operation, Manipur Police arrested two cadres of KCP (PWG) while they were attempting to extort money from shops in Wangoi Laxmi Bazar, Imphal West District. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sarangthem Dinesh (26) and Sanasam Malemnganbi Chanu (23).

Additionally, in another operation on Monday, Manipur Police apprehended a vehicle lifter, identified as Md. Mehta, from Lilong Uku Maning under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal District.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified efforts to ensure the safe movement of essential goods along National Highways 37 and 2. In the last 24 hours, 329 vehicles were escorted along NH-37 and 237 vehicles along NH-2, facilitating the supply of essential commodities. Strict security measures were enforced at vulnerable locations, and security convoys were deployed in sensitive stretches to ensure the uninterrupted movement of vehicles.
