Three Injured in Alleged Kuki Militants' Attack in Manipur

In yet another alleged attack of the Kuki militants, a 45-year-old farmer sustained multiple bullet injuries on his left thigh at Langoltaobi Loukol, Phubala, Bishnupur around 8.30 am on Saturday. While another 18-year-old boy and an IRB personnel sustained injuries when alleged Kuki militants attacked in Kwakta, Bishnupur. 

As per the witness and the villagers, Rajan went to work with his younger brother at their field some 1.5 kilometres away from the foothills where the Kuki militants stay. It was around 8.30 in the morning, and some 30-plus farmers were tilling and preparing their fields for agricultural purposes. They heard long whistles from the side of the Sikh Regiment, and the alleged Kuki militants fired upon them one bullet hitting Ranjan on his left thigh and another one sustaining him a scratch. While other farmers fell flat onto the muddy water for safety. Several bullets hit on the field where they all worked, added a friend working close to the victim.

The person injured is Yumnam Ranjan (45 years), son of Late Yumnam Kaoba and Yumnam Ongbi Leirentombi of Phubala Awang Ward No 2. He is now admitted to Raj Medicity for surgery.

While in another attack at Kwakta, alleged Kuki militants used lethode bombs and injured an 18-year-old Muslim boy at his own house lying in between Kwakta Ward no. 8 and 9.  The attack came from the hill side where the forest stands. 

Yumkhaibam Warish Khan, the victim received first aid at Kwakta Primary Health Centre and was later taken to Bisnupur District Hospital. He has 14 injuries in his body and requires stitches. He is the son of Y. Ayub Khan of Kwakta Ward no. 8 Maning Leikai.

Sources said the victim and his family have been staying in a safer place. However, he went to visit his original house for random inspection and suffered injuries in the bomb attack by the Kuki militants.

While in another Kuki militants’ attack at the premises of Kwakta Ward No. 9, a 1st IRB personnel attached to Bishnupur Police Commando sustained injury at lower limb. The IRB personnel is hospitalized at Raj Medicity in Imphal. A class XII student was also killed on early Friday morning by the Kuki MIlitants at the same area.

Meanwhile, reports came that a search operation is being conducted now following the incident by a combined team of District Police Bishnupur, BSF and Kumaon Regiment lead by SP BPR Ronnie Mayengbam.
